The alternate title for this post was, How a Pulled Pork Sandwich Got Me Out of a Funk.  End of the year funk I guess.  Maybe it's nearing the end of Keels' Birthday season here.  Maybe it's the snow.  Maybe it's the kids being home from school and trying to work all at the same time.  I usually make a list of 50 things to do each year and this year I couldn't think of one thing to put on it.  And I love to put fun things on that list.  So clearly I was in a funk.

But last night we gathered around Pulled Pork Sandwiches for dinner and I asked the question I'm sure many of us do on January 1.  ”Kids, what were your favorite highlights from 2012?”  Adam immediately brought up Keels Cafe.  We talked about how funny it was.  And what

a miracle it was that anyone actually got fed with our limited

catering and restaurant experience.  And we got excited for Keels Cafe 2013.  What jobs we liked doing and what we might want to try next year.  (Hosting seems to be the coveted job.) How many neighbor kids we can employ.  What menu changes we'll incorporate … but look forward to these Pulled Pork Sliders to be on there.  Sure we have other memories, but this was the one that reminded me to do what I love.  To not care how silly it all seems sometimes.  And to relish in the kids' excitement as often as I can.  By the end of dinner my funk had lifted.

We have some big ideas

for next year.  We hope to have a full backyard.  And our live music agreed to return.  So make your reservations today … except that I don't know what the date is yet … but you can let me know that you want me to let you know.

Now, I need to go make my 50 things to do list … #1 is Get out of Funk.  I'll cross that off as soon as I write it down.  I'm off to a great start.
